CPOSC 2013 Call for Volunteers

Planning for this year’s Central PA Open Source Conference (CPOSC) has begun!

KICKOFF MEETING

The CPOSC planning committee is currently seeking motivated volunteers to assist with the conference. If you are interested volunteering please send an email to team@cposc.org. Also plan on attending our kick off meeting either in person at the xforty technologies Mechanicsburg office (1300 Bent Creek Blvd Suite 203, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050) or virtually via the CPOSC google hangout (http://hangout.cposc.org). The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.

During the meeting you will hear from each of the committee members. They will go over what you can do specifically to help out. In general, we need people to help promote the conference to their friends and co-workers, raise awareness through social media, fundraising through sponsorships, administer the website, and be available for various logistical tasks before and on the day of the conference.

Hi All!
It’s been a month since another successful CPOSC. Successful because of the great content and participation from the Open Source Community. Thank you so much to all the speakers, sponsors and everyone who came out to join in on the fun.

If there are sessions you missed or want to review, you can check out the wiki page for 2012 here: http://wiki.cposc.org/cposc2012. I’ve opened up the page for anyone to edit, so if any of the speakers have slides they want to add that would be awesome.

Looking forward to another great CPOSC in 2013! We will start the process and contact volunteers interested in helping within the next couple months.

A few deadlines

CPOSC Saturday is fast approaching! A few deadlines to keep in mind:

We are printing badges tomorrow (Thursday the 25th), so get your registrations made by then or be stuck with a hand-written badge. :)

Also, online ticket sales will end at 10pm on Friday the 26th, or until supplies last. If tickets remain they can be purchased with a credit card on the day of the conference for $45. So if you’ve waiting to buy, go now to lock in the pre-con price!

Looking for a few good people

We’re looking for 4 volunteers this year (2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon) to help on the day of the conference (October 27th).

The morning people will:
Help us set up
Man the registration table
Answer attendee questions

And the afternoon folks:
Help us tear down at the end of the day
Man the registration table
Answer questions

Everyone will:
Meet perhaps a couple times prior to the day of the conference to go over details and help us put together conference materials

Since we will need some in-person interaction prior to the con, the volunteers should be local to the Harrisburg area.

What do you get?
Free admission and half the day to attend sessions as you will! Plus recognition in the conference materials and a special badge.

We don’t have the actual day’s schedule finalized, so we won’t be able to tell you which talks will be in the morning or afternoon.

Talk submission deadline extended

We’re extending the deadline to submit a talk until Sunday, August 12th. We’ve gotten a GREAT batch of submissions already and are really excited about the topic lineup for this year’s CPOSC.

After the submissions are closed we will review the proposals and hope to notify the speakers by the following weekend.

We hope you’ll join us for another exciting day of community, tech and open source on Saturday, October 27th! Our venue will again be the excellent Harrisburg University.

Attendee registration is not yet open, expect that at the beginning of August.
